Securities:
Stock that has increased in value is one of the most popular assets used for charitable giving, once it has been held for more than one year. Making a gift of securities helps the RSF Education Foundation while realizing many important benefits for yourself. Donating stock to charity is a smart approach to giving. Stock gifts have several advantages over cash. When you give stock that has increased in value since you acquired it, no capital gains tax is paid. This allows you to give more to the charity at less cost to yourself. In addition, you can take a tax deduction for the larger amount of the donation.
If you have the physical securities: Hand-deliver them to us, or mail us the stock and stock power separately.
If you don't have possession of the physical securities: Instruct your broker to electronically transfer your intended shares to UBS (La Jolla office). Please contact the RSFEF Administrative office at 858-756-1141, ext. 208 or

for UBS contact information and specific stock instructions to provide your broker such as account number, Depository Trust Company (DTC), Tax ID number and account title.
Please advise the RSF Education Foundation prior to any stock transfers, (including the gift date, name/ticker symbol, and quantity of stock) so that we know who is making the donation. (Once the proceeds arrive at UBS, that information is not readily available.) Please note that per IRS regulations, stock is valued and tax receipts are processed based on the average price on gift date. Please contact us at 858-756-1141, ext.208 or

if you have further questions.
The steps above are for donating publicly traded stocks you have owned for more than one year that are worth more than when you first purchased them.
If you have stock losses: Sell the stock yourself to realize the loss and take any allowed deduction for tax purposes. Then generate a charitable deduction by donating the cash proceeds of the sale to the RSF Education Foundation.
Charitable Trust:
Donations to the RSF Education Foundation can be made through your Charitable Trust. A charitable trust is an irrevocable trust established for charitable purposes. To set up your Charitable Trust contact your program administrator or visit http://www.fidelitycharitableservices.com/. To give from your charitable trust you will need to provide your broker the charity name - Rancho Santa Fe Education Foundation and Tax ID number.
